After some COVID-related delays, including (as I mentioned in a previous update) the narrator getting stuck in another state (!) and needing to set up a whole new studio to finish recording the last few chapters, I am delighted to tell you that the audiobook of By Light of Hidden Candles is now available for pre-order! The book will be officially released on September 3rd.

I want you to know that the audiobook is not just a rendering of By Light of Hidden Candles into speech. Lori’s narration is a full-on performance that depicts the characters in an incredibly nuanced and entertaining way. Margie Blumberg of MB Publishing produced the book with great dedication and meticulousness, striving for the absolute best quality while staying true to the spirit of the book. I am honored and flattered that she saw fit to invest so much in this project because it is completely clear to me that she believes in this book 100% and is confident it will do well in this new format.
The process of reviewing the narration and giving feedback was deeply satisfying for me on a professional and personal level. The characters in the book, especially Alma, Manuel, and Grandma Alma, mean a great deal to me, and I was nervous about letting someone else depict them. I’ve been reading my fiction aloud to my friends since I was a young teenager, and it was a bit scary to hand my beloved characters over to be performed in someone else’s voice. But Lori surpassed all my expectations. I could not be more grateful to her and Margie for producing a new version of By Light of Hidden Candles that I am proud to share.
So, whether you’ve been holding out for an audio version because that’s your preference, or you have already enjoyed By Light of Hidden Candles in print, I enthusiastically recommend that you give the audiobook a listen!
In other audio news, I had another interview on Disengagement with Mark Weiss of Kan English News, which was broadcast last week. You can listen to the 10-minute interview, starting about 36 minutes into the broadcast, here.
Stay tuned for a sample audio “sneak peek” from the audiobook!
