You have no idea how long I’ve been dying to share this news!!!
I am so excited to tell you that my publisher and I have signed a contract with MB Publishing granting them the rights to produce an audiobook of By Light of Hidden Candles.

MB Publishing originally contacted Kasva Press to discuss the production of an enhanced ebook (a version that includes illustrations, images, video, and audio to bring the story to life), but after some back and forth, they decided to put that project on hold for now in favor of producing an audiobook.
When Don informed me of this change, I was a bit disappointed at first. I’d been rather enamored with the idea of seeing illustrations of elements and characters in the book.
Then I heard the narrator audition by Lori Felipe-Barkin.

Lori is a Cuban Jewish actor and voiceover artist from Brooklyn. And she. Is. FANTASTIC. We could not have hoped for a better candidate: she is fluent in English and Spanish, she is Jewish with a background in Sephardic history (she played a Sephardic character at a museum for two years!), and most of all, she is extremely talented and channeled the voices of the characters really, really well.
I nearly cried for joy and wrote back immediately: “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!”
It took us a while to negotiate and sign the contract for a variety of random reasons (not least of which, my poor editor broke his leg last month!), but here we finally are! MB Publishing has committed to releasing the audiobook within about a year.
Meanwhile, the good folks at Kasva Press and I are currently putting the finishing touches on the advance review copy of Disengagement, which we are hoping to release in early 2020. We’ve decided to prioritize it over Letters to Josep for now, but once we have the ARC out, we’ll be able to wrap up the editing of LtJ and finally get the damn thing to the presses.
Stay tuned!
